Consequently, this officially ushered the ranging industry into the age of light speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of principle breakthrough, TOF (Time\u2011of\u2011Flight) technology works by emitting a laser pulse, allowing it to reflect off the target, then receiving the echo, and calculating distance as (speed of light \u00d7 time) \/ 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the early stages, these devices primarily served military purposes. They were bulky, consumed high power, and predominantly used 1064nm wavelength \u2013 which was not sufficiently eye\u2011safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Civilian Proliferation \u2013 From Niche Professional Tool to Everyday Utility<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moving on, the 1990s saw semiconductor lasers mature.
